Julie was born on 1st Oct 1935 in Walton-on-Thames, England. Her father was Edward Charles Wells, who was a teacher of metalwork as well as woodwork and her mother was Barbara Ward Wells. Her parents divorced, and she spent her childhood with her father and brother, John in Surrey. They live in the slum area as her father had a very low income. Julie started her education at Cone-Ripman School and later joined the Woodbrook School, in Beckenham.
