ORIGIN
J Balvin is a Colombian reggaeton singer and songwriter. He’s known for songs like “6 AM”, “Ay Vamos” and “Mi Gente”. His discography includes La Familia (2013) and Energia (2016). Jose Balvin was born on May 7, 1985, in Medellin, Colombia. His parents are Alvaro Osorio and Alba Mery Vasquez. He has a sister named Carolina. Balvin moved to the United States at age 17. The album was reissued as ‘La Familia B Sides’ in September 2014. It produced one additional single “Ay Vamos”, which won a Latin Grammy for the best urban song. Balvin won 2 Premios Nuestra Tierra Awards in 2014. He was named Best Latin America Central Act at the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards. He headlined the 2015 La Familia Tour with Becky G.

Balvin’s fourth album, Energia, was released in June 2016 by Capitol Latin and Universal Music Group. It became his first release to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. The album spawned 3 singles “Ginza”, “Bobo” and “Safari” featuring Pharrell Williams, BIA, and Sky. Other guest artists on the project include Daddy Yankee, Yandel and Fuego. The album was supported by the Energia Tour (2016-17). Balvin was featured on the track “Hey Ma” for the soundtrack album, The Fate of the Furious (2017). He collaborated with French DJ Willy William on the 2017 single “Mi Gente”. The official video for Mi Gente has been viewed more than 1 billion times on YouTube. A remixed version of the song featuring Beyonce was released in September 2017.
